Lectors & Eucharistic Ministers
Lectors proclaim the Word of God to the people in public worship. The team comprises laypersons who serve by reading the day’s scripture lessons, reciting the Nicene Creed, and leading the Prayers of the People in our worship services. Many Lectors also serve as Eucharistic Ministers, who administer the chalices of wine during Holy Communion.
A Eucharistic Minister is a layperson authorized to administer the consecrated elements at a Celebration of the Holy Eucharist. A Eucharistic Minister acts under the direction of the clergy.
A Eucharistic Visitor is a layperson authorized to promptly take the consecrated elements following a Celebration of Holy Eucharist to members of the congregation who were unable to be present because of illness or infirmity at the Celebration of the Eucharist. A Eucharistic Visitor acts under the direction of the clergy or other leader exercising oversight of the congregation or other community of faith.
All lay ministers serving in The Diocese of Missouri are required to be licensed by the bishop.
