Remembering Elaine Long

Doris Elaine Long

January 5, 1929 – March 7, 2024

(Doris) Elaine Long passed away peacefully in Brick, New Jersey on Thursday March 7, 2024 at the age of 95 with her family by her side. She is preceded in death by her late husband, Jim (James) Long. Elaine and Jim were active members of Grace Episcopal Church for many years. She is survived by her 5 children, T. David Cobb, Susan Passarella, Patricia (Trish) McGuire, Barbara Manuel, and Margaret (Peggy) McClellan; 7 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.

Elaine moved to New Jersey in 2000 to be near her daughter Suzi, 4 grandchildren, and the beach. She enjoyed her new home and making new friends in a retirement community with a golf course, swimming pool, and bocce ball courts. She was active on the Beautification and Architectural Committees, in the Women’s Golf Association, a book club, and the bocce ball league.

Elaine was very active in her new Episcopal church, St. Mary’s by the Sea. She coordinated knitting caps and scarves for the Seamen’s Institute, worked at St. Mary’s Table weekly outreach dinners, and a member of the Funeral Reception Committee.

Ninos de Christo Orfanato (an orphanage in the Dominican Republic). Entertaining family and friends brought great joy to Elaine, she was a wonderful cook and famous for her German Honey Cookies at Christmastime. She loved to travel with family and friends, play games and cards, work jigsaw puzzles, gardening, and bird watching from her kitchen window. Spending time in and at activities with her grand and great-grand children brought Elaine many smiles. She also truly enjoyed sitting at the beach with family or friends and then walking in search of sea glass.

A celebration of life service was held at St. Mary’s by the Sea on Sunday March 10, 2024 in New Jersey.

There will be a Memorial service at Grace Episcopal Church, Kirkwood on May 18th, 2024 at 2:00p.m.
