Horizons St. Louis
This non-profit’s mission is to inspire a brighter future for Kirkwood School District students most in need by providing opportunities to experience high-quality academics, engaging enrichment activities, and healthy life skills.
Horizons St. Louis in Kirkwood has a long history and strong affiliation with Grace Episcopal Church. The organization was formed in the late 1960s through a collaborative effort of local organizations, including Grace Episcopal Church. It was formerly known as SPROG, Inc. Until recently, Grace Church hosted their summer program out of our facilities.
In 2019 they became an affiliate of Horizons National, with a state-of-the-art facility based at Kirkwood High School. Here’s what some of their students and parents say about the program: One student shared,I love Horizons because I made new friends, and I can almost do anything with math. “Because of Horizons, my daughter practices water safety and even gives us tips to remain safe.” – Mother of a first-grade student. “I appreciated the loving staff. You can tell they take pride in their job.” – Parent of Horizons student.
- Horizons provides a tuition-free summer education and enrichment experience for Kirkwood students experiencing academic challenges and limited access to quality summer programs and enrichment activities.
- By blending high-quality academics with STEM, swimming, enrichment, ‘whole child’ – focused teaching practices, and family involvement, the Horizons model is intentionally designed for maximum impact. •
- Horizons served 84 students in grades K-6 in its six-week 2023 summer program and had 21 staff members.
- Kids who finish the Horizons program are academically, socially, and emotionally stronger.
