A Message From The Rector
III Lent 2020
CORONAVIRUS RESPONSE UPDATE
Bishop Wayne Smith and Bishop-elect Deon Johnson suspend public worship services throughout the diocese
Dear People of Grace:
Today Bishop Smith and Bishop-elect Johnson issued a letter suspending public worship services until at least April 3; just before Palm Sunday and Holy Week services would begin. As we did yesterday, we will continue to offer Sunday worship via live stream through our Facebook page.
There are also other restrictions which include not gathering in groups of 10 or more people. In order to follow our diocesan and national/state/local guidelines, and to keep the best safety practices - we will be closing our building immediately to all gatherings, both church and community related. This means our Wednesday Lenten Series will have to be postponed, there will not be weekday services, Sunday School, book studies, meetings, rehearsals, or any other functions in our building until further notice.Community groups such as Lab School, Contemplative Outreach, aerobics, and all 12-steps groups will not be able to gather in our buildings.
Grace’s staff will continue to work, both from home and at church.Individual appointments can be made directly with any staff person.I suspended Lay Eucharistic Visits last week.We encourage everyone’s prayers for the people of Grace, particularly the most vulnerable.A personal note or phone call to them would be a wonderful gesture.
I will be the only person making face-to-face pastoral calls for those in need.As always, in cases of severe illness, hospitalization, when a person is near death, or at the death of a member of Grace, please notify me as soon as possible in order to secure the ministrations of the church. For a pastoral need you may call/text my cellphone: 314-365-1964.I also continue to be available for individual and family face-to-face pastoral/spiritual care, both in my office or in your home, just contact me for an appointment.
It is difficult for all of us in these uncertain times. But we remain certain that we are a life-giving community as followers of Jesus Christ.Even though we may not see one another face-to-face over the next weeks, the strength of our community will carry on.Through our prayer, notes, texts/calls as we care for one another as a people of Grace.May God lead us into new ministry and ways of love and care in the weeks ahead, and may the blessing of God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit be with you this day and remain with you always!
In Christ’s love,
