Chores Galore: Helping seniors in our community
On August 16, 2017
Saturday, Oct. 28
8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.
As students are welcomed back to their schools, we are reminded that the long days of summer are nearly gone and fall is fast approaching. While many are enjoying the transition to football games and bonfires, our older neighbors are beginning to worry about the daunting tasks they face before winter sets in.
Chores that we often take for granted as a normal part of the year can be overwhelming to someone who has experienced a loss of strength or balance. Raking up the leaves from all the beautiful trees that fill our community or tidying up summer gardens and patio furniture are needs that cause worry for seniors living in their own homes.
What a gift it is to lend a helping hand that allows someone to remain in the beloved home. The Shepherd’s Center’s annual Chores Galore fall clean-up day is Saturday, Oct. 28. As part of the community-wide Make a Difference Day effort, volunteers will spread out in Webster Groves, Kirkwood, Crestwood and surrounding areas to assist residents who might otherwise struggle to complete outdoor yard and garden jobs.
Volunteers will gather at 8:30 a.m. the Shepherd’s Center at 1333 W. Lockwood Avenue in Glendale to get their assignments. Work will wrap up by 1:00 p.m. Please contact Karen Zelle at the Shepherd’s Center (314-395-0988) by September 29 if you or your group would like to help.
Grace Church is proud to be a sponsoring congregation of the Shepherd’s Center, whose mission is to inspire older adults through enrichment, volunteerism and community connection.
