Thursday, May 11, is the date. Plan to leave Grace by 9:00 a.m. for a day in the country with a short interval to browse the shops in Hermann. Lunch at Hermann Wurst Haus, starting at 10:45 with samples from their more than 100 varieties of old world sausage, ham, bacon, jerky, bologna, braunschweiger, and much more made on site.

Then we leave for Hermann Farm and Museum to take a two-hour tram tour ($17) of the 200-acre farm featuring restored historic buildings, including the Hussmann House (site of the museum), and chickens, sheep, cattle, a pair of white mules, and eight Shire draft horses that are larger than Clydesdales.

Finally, off to New Haven for a demo of glass blowing at Astral Glass Studio and Gallery and then home by about 5:30 p.m.
