Stir up your power, Lord Christ, and come.
Come to us in all the moments of our lives.
Help us to watch so that we are amazed by your love.
Bless us in our Advent Journey.
Amen.

advent 1 - 2015Grace Church has many special events planned to enjoy fellowship, serve the community and worship together as we await the birth of our Lord. Here is a brief look at our 2016 Advent and Christmas programs:

Advent Event

Sunday, Nov. 20 / 9 – 10 a.m.
Grace’s Church School Committee invites all ages to enjoy breakfast and make holiday crafts with your family and friends. Don’t forget to take home Advent calendars and devotionals to use throughout the season. Advent begins Sunday, Nov. 27.

Women of Grace Holiday Sale

Saturday, Dec. 3 / 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
What better place to find the perfect gift than at the Holiday Sale (a.k.a. the Cookie/Candy/Baked Goods, Book/DVD, Vintage/Costume Jewelry/Ornament Sale and Raffle) sponsored by Women of Grace! Many varieties of delicious homemade cookies will be for sale by the pound. Also available are other goodies and gift-packaged candy created by the talented cooks at Grace. If any remain after the sale (a risk you take), they will be for sale on Sunday at both coffee hours.

A Merry Ducky Christmas tree designed and decorated by Barbara MacRobie and her son Charles Fliss will be raffled at the Holiday Sale. Rubber duckies include a heavy-metal guitarist, a surfer, a knight in armor, St. Nicholas, and many more. The two-foot tabletop tree includes lights, decorations and a tree skirt. Raffle tickets are available for $1 each or 6 for $5 at coffee hours and the Holiday Sale. Drawing takes place at 12:45 p.m. on December 3; winner will be called immediately.

Saint Nicholas Sunday

Sunday, Dec. 4 / 10 a.m.
Our young members and friends are invited to the altar rail for a special children’s homily after Sunday school to learn about the real Saint Nicholas. Don’t forget to leave your shoes in the hallway for a special surprise!

Advent Lessons & Carols

Sunday, Dec. 4 / 5 p.m.
Celebrate the season with this traditional service of Bible stories and music. This beautiful service is led by the Choirs of Grace Church.

The Giving Tree

Select an ornament and purchase a gift for youth in detention (Episcopal City Mission), children in need (Grace Hill House), or mariners serving on our waterways (Seamen’s Institute). Gift ideas, wrapping instructions and return dates are listed on the display in our parish hall.

Knit for Christmas on the River

Grace members have been providing holiday cheer for workers on our nation’s river vessels for several years, resulting in our church being named a Mariner Friendly Church by the Seamen’s Church Institute. If you enjoy knitting, please download patters from the Seamen’s website.

Ornament Party

Tuesday, Dec. 6 / 6 p.m.
Bring a unique Christmas ornament ($10 or less; anonymously wrapped) for a wild and crazy ornament exchange. This year’s party is hosted by Denise Miller. Cost is $20 per person, with proceeds donated to Grace’s outreach ministries.

Children’s Christmas Pageant Rehearsal

Sunday, Dec. 18 / 11:15 a.m.
All children are invited to help us tell the traditional Christmas story at our 4 p.m. service on December 24. We have speaking and non-speaking roles. Adults are also needed to help with the production. Please sign up in our parish hall or contact Janis in the church office if you would like to participate.

Christmas Caroling

Sunday, Dec. 18 / 6:30 p.m.
Gather with your family and friends for an evening of caroling around our church neighborhood. We’ll enjoy hot chocolate and cookies after spreading our holiday cheer! Sign up in our parish hall if you would like to join the fun!
