Children’s Choir 2015
On August 5, 2015
by Phillip Brunswick, Grace Church Choir Master & Organist
Choirs are wonderful places for the children to contribute as ministry leaders in the parish. It is a place where they learn about music, language, Bible stories and gain skills by working together as a team. They function as youth fellowship opportunities for the youngest of children and members often form enduring friendships.
The choral program at Grace Church offers participation in a communal life that educates, inspires and nurtures spiritual formation, giving the children and their families a rich musical and spiritual foundation. Great emphasis is given to music-reading skills, faith and friendship and participating through their own worship and service to the parish.
As parents we have a tremendous influence on our children, also on their decisions and what they tend to see as valuable and important! What we support, they are willing to pursue, and what we encourage and give priority to, they continue to be a part of even when the luster at times temporarily wears thin!
I truly look forward to a great year of rewarding time, learning, and spiritual fulfillment! I hope your child(ren) will be part of the choir experience at Grace!
Saint Patrick Training Choir
for boys & girls, Kindergarten – 2nd Grade
Rehearsals are on Wednesdays, 4:30 – 5:15 p.m., beginning August 26
The training starts at an early age to teach the responsibilities and experience the joys of leading worship. As the children learn to read in school, these young singers learn the basics of reading texts and music in The Hymnal 1982 and other sources. We nurture their love for and understanding of this art because it is a great way for children to express themselves, feel a sense of accomplishment, and develop their minds fully. Through this course of structured rehearsals, we also stress rhythm skills, choral discipline and the liturgy. The group sings during services on occasion throughout the school year.
for girls & boys, ages 9 and up
Rehearsals are on Thursdays, 4:30 – 6 p.m., beginning August 27
This Choir provides girls & boys ages nine-years-old and up with an opportunity to play an important role in keeping music in the Anglican tradition alive. The Choir learns a wide-ranging repertoire of the finest in scared music. Using the Royal School of Church Music curriculum Voice For Life, Choristers enjoy learning music and vocal skills, Christian aspects of music and liturgy, and general rehearsal techniques. Rehearsals are conducted on Thursdays from 4:30 to 6 PM. The Choir sings at the 10 AM Eucharist on scheduled Sundays (usually twice each month) and at Evensong and other special services. Church membership is not a requirement for joining this Choir. Rehearsals begin August 27.
