Building teams for children’s & youth ministries

by Janis Greenbaum, Director of Christian Formation & Communications
I hope everyone is enjoying summer with family and friends. I just returned from vacation and am feeling rested and ready to take on the task of planning for a new year of Grace’s Christian Formation ministries!
I am looking for adult members to join our children’s & youth ministry teams. I’ve listed opportunities below – I know everyone has particular skills, preferences and time availability. Please know that my goal is to create a true team, where no one has to know all, be all, or do all. We all support each other at every step. But our system only works if we all pitch in a little. I think you will find service in this ministry to be fun and rewarding!
Please give some prayerful consideration to what ministries you might like to be involved in for the 2015-2016 school year:
- Sunday School Teacher:
Work with a team to plan lessons (with provided curriculum) and lead Sunday classes. Each team can work out your own schedule to meet the needs of your personal calendar. Ages include: Pre-K & K; 1-3 grades; 4-5 grades; middle school.
- Sunday School Assistant:
Work with a team to greet students & families, set-up class materials, set-up snacks and complete other duties to support the classroom teacher. Each team can work out your own schedule to meet the needs of your personal calendar. Ages include: Pre-K & K; 1-3 grades; 4-5 grades; middle school.
- Church School Special Events:
We need creative-types and organizers to help plan and carry out special events, including our open house & welcome breakfast; pizza, pumpkins & prayers; Advent event; Holy Communion event; Easter egg hunt; end of the year celebration… and more!
- Confirmation Mentor:
Be a friend and mentor to one of our 8th grade confirmation students throughout the year. Occasional class attendance (1st & 2nd Sundays of each month @ 9 a.m.) is required.
- High School Youth Group Mentor:
Get to know our high school students and participate in our youth group activities (when available). Help plan and attend monthly Sunday gatherings for high school students. Group will meet on the first Sunday of each month after the 10 a.m. service.
- Mission Trip Team:
Work with leadership to plan and carry out our annual youth mission trip. Duties include researching and planning the trip details, organizing youth fundraising activities, planning and attending youth team-building events, and attending the trip as a chaperone.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss any of these opportunities, please give me a call in the church office (314-821-1806, ext. 19) or drop me an email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you are planning to be a part of any of these ministries, please plan to attend our Church School Brunch and Planning Workshop on Saturday, August 15 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.
