Supporting lifelong Christian formation
On July 7, 2014
by Janis Greenbaum, Director of Christian Formation & Communications
We are gearing up for another great year of Christian Formation programs at Grace Church. Our goal is to provide opportunities to live in to The Episcopal Church’s Charter for Lifelong Christian Formation:
Lifelong Christian Faith Formation in The Episcopal Church is
lifelong growth in the knowledge, service and love of God as followers of Christ
and is informed by Scripture, Tradition and Reason.
Here’s what stands out to me in that statement:
- lifelong: We never stop learning about our faith and God’s love for us! It starts the day we’re born and continues until the day we die.
- knowledge, service and love: These words point to our call to carry out the mission of the Church in the world.
- Scripture, Tradition and Reason:
So how do we create effective Christian Formation ministries? With God’s help — and YOUR help! It may sound cliched, but our programs can’t happen without the support of our members. There are so many ways to get involved: you can help plan events, lead classes, or just bring yourself or your children to a class. The important thing is that you make Christian Formation a priority for yourself and your family.
Everyone’s lives are so busy today, but I promise you that your busy life will be more rewarding and more fulfilled if you make room for God. I encourage you to prayerfully consider all the opportunities to volunteer and/or participate in Grace’s Christian Formation ministries this year. Let’s work together to create faith formation opportunities for all ages as we continue our lifelong journey with Christ, in Christ, and to Christ.
Grace’s Church School for children and youth begins Sunday, Sept. 7 at 9:45 a.m.; our Adult Sunday Series begins Sunday, Sept. 14 at 9 a.m.
