“Praying the Prayers”
“…give rest to the weary, bless the dying, soothe the suffering, pity the afflicted, shield the joyous and all for your love’s sake.” (Compline; Book of Common Prayer, p. 134)
The Daily Offices of Morning Prayer, Noonday Prayer, Order for Evening Worship, Evening Prayer and Compline, along with the Prayers found in Daily Devotions for Individuals, contain some of the most beautiful and inspiring prayers in our Prayer Book. Confluence: A Center for Spirituality will offer an opportunity to encounter the depths of these prayers on three Thursday afternoons in Lent beginning March 13 at Grace Church.
Using the ancient practice of “lectio divina” (literally “holy reading,”) the group will pray the prayers listening with what Saint Benedict called the “ear of the heart.” Using that “ear,” we will pray the prayers in a quiet, contemplative manner trusting that in this way we draw nearer to the heart of God. As we do that, we have the opportunity to offer more and more of ourselves and our lives to the Creator.
The three sessions will meet on Thursday afternoons March 13, 20 and 27 from 4 p.m. till p.m. at Grace Church. The program will be facilitated by the Rev. Susan Skinner. You are invited to sign-up for this Lenten opportunity at firstname.lastname@example.org by leaving your name, email and telephone number.
