Serving the community through Hands on Kirkwood
On August 27, 2013
Grace’s Outreach Committee encourages everyone in our parish to participate in this year’s Hands on Kirkwood event and to be a part of the volunteer celebration, hosted by Grace Church, on Saturday, Oct. 4.
Hands on Kirkwood is a one-day mission blitz of our local community. A day when every member of the community is encouraged and empowered to go and to serve. All of us have heard the statement, “It is better to give than to receive.” Most of us believe this statement, but few of us find an intentional way to live it out on a daily basis. Hands on Kirkwood is that intentional way.
This year’s main event is Saturday, Oct. 4 and there are many ways to participate. You can learn more about the service projects and sign up to be part of the community volunteer crew at the Hands on Kirkwood website.
Winter Clothing Drive
Some of the HOK projects begin before October 4, including a winter clothing drive. Please go through your closets and drawers now and donate any gently-used items you are no longer using. There is a particular need for gloves, boots, jackets, hats, coats, scarves and general winter wear. We will have a collection box in Albright Parish Hall throughout September for your donations. Volunteers will be setting up a clothing shop at Kirkwood Baptist Church, where the donations will be distributed free of charge to our neighbors in need.
Volunteer Celebration Event
Grace Episcopal Church will once again host the HOK Celebration Event on Saturday, Oct. 4 from 12:30 till 4 p.m. We need members to donate food and drinks as well as help with set-up, clean-up and hospitality at the event. Please donate a little time to help us be a gracious host! Sign-up sheets are on the bulletin board in Albright Parish Hall.
If you have any questions about Grace’s participation in Hands on Kirkwood, please contact our Outreach Committee chairs, Vince & Michele Nicosia.
