PageLines- matthew-icon.jpgOne day Jesus was walking and saw a tax collector named Matthew sitting at a tax collection post. He said to Matthew, “Follow me.” When Jesus called him, Matthew immediately left everything and became one of Jesus’ 12 apostles.
Tax collectors were considered social outcasts in that time, hated for making their profits by cheating the people from whom they collected taxes. Jesus was criticized for sharing a table with Matthew and others like him, but he continued to show that the love of Jesus extends to everyone.

September 21 is the Feast Day of Saint Matthew. Because of our recent merger with St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Warson Woods, Grace Church is pleased to “adopt” Matthew as our patron saint.

We have several special events planned to recognize Saint Matthew in our parish. We hope you’ll be part of the celebration!

Saturday, Sept. 21 at 4 p.m.
Holy Eucharist and Dedication of St. Matthew’s Prayer Garden and Columbarium Expansion

We’ll gather outside on the south side of our church property to worship and celebrate the expansion of our columbarium and prayer garden. If the weather is bad, we’ll worship inside in the Chapel of the Apostles, which overlooks the garden.

Sunday, Sept. 22 at 8 & 10 a.m.
Holy Eucharist with special membership recognitions

We’ll celebrate new members to our parish along with those celebrating 25- and 50-year anniversaries.

* If you recently joined Grace Church or are celebrating a milestone anniversary, please contact Parish Administrator Angela Breeher so we can include you in our recognition.

Sunday, Sept. 22 following the 10 a.m. service
All-parish Picnic

Everyone is invited to celebrate our church life together at our annual picnic. We’ll provide the fried chicken — you provide the salads, side dishes, chips and desserts. Sign up here to let us know what you’re bringing.

Along with a delicious meal, we’ll enjoy music from a pipe band, bounce houses, face painting and snow cones. All friends, family and neighbors are invited to take part in this festive event!
