mission trip 2013 (500)Thirteen youth members and six adults made their way to West Bend, Wisconsin this summer to spend a week working with Habitat for Humanity.

The group left Grace Church early morning on Sunday, June 2. Fr. Todd and Mo. Doris gathered with parents to send the group off with a prayer and good wishes.

The missioners spent their days helping to build a home for single mom Beauty Wadlington. Beauty and her four daughters moved to West Bend about three years ago. She works as a custodian at a local elementary school. Habitat officials describe Beauty as a woman of faith, who leans on God as she walks her life journey.

Our group from Grace stayed at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, the home church of their Habitat site supervisor. The local Episcopal church, St. James, also treated the youth and adults to dinner and Eucharist Thursday evening.

Of course, the crew found a little time for fun while they were away, with a trip to Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, IL, a visit to West Bend’s famous Jumbo’s frozen custard stand and a night of fun Bible trivia.

Our five graduating seniors reflected on their experiences as youth missioners by presenting homilies at our 8 and 10 a.m. worship services Sunday, June 9. You can read their reflections here:
