seamen's church instituteIf you like to knit or crochet, we have a project for you. This is the third year that Grace Church will help provide Christmas gifts for the Seamen’s Church Institute “Christmas on the river” program. The SCI provides pastoral counseling, support and fellowship to the thousands of professional mariners who work on towboats, harbor tugs, buoy tenders, dredges and offshore vessels on our nation’s rivers and coastal waterways. These folks are often on the water and away from their families for weeks at a time. The job is especially difficult and lonely at Christmas.

Warm scarves, socks, caps and vests are most welcome to those whose work is often wet, cold and dangerous. If you would like to knit or crochet items for these mariners, patterns and instructions are available. Please see Shirley Browne and she will be happy to provide you with all the information you need.
