25 people participated in the event, which featured a casual 10-mile ride or a brisk 20-mile ride along Grant’s Trail. Riders began the tour at Grace Church with coffee and bagels. The Rev. Todd McDowell, rector at Grace Episcopal Church, blessed the riders as they departed with a biker’s prayer: “… watch over my brothers and sisters who ride with me, keep them safe and close to thee, keep their wheels upon the ground, so they’ll return here safe and sound.”

Along the route, riders were greeted by members at stands offering pie, bananas and drinks. The tour ended back at Grace, where riders enjoyed a breakfast burrito feast (complete with sticky rolls).

Grace member and event organizer Ron Ryan said the morning was great fun for everyone. All the money raised from Saturday’s event will go toward outreach projects through Grace’s Legacy Fund, which will perpetually benefit Kirkwood and neighboring community programs. Ryan said Grace plans to host the Tour de Food again next year and he hopes to raise even more money for outreach by adding sponsorships to the event.
