All Saints’ kicks off new arts afterschool program
On April 18, 2012
The fundraising event is a happy hour and will be held Friday, April 27 from 5 p.m. till 8 p.m. at Blackfinn American Grill at the Galleria Mall. You are invited to enjoy free hors d’oeuvres and drink specials, with donations going toward All Saints’ Music and Arts Village.
The Village will be an afterschool program that provides keyboard, guitar and art classes for children in 4th through 8th grades. The mission of the program is to provide an opportunity for music and arts to enter into the lives of the underserved youth of North St. Louis by providing instruments and free instruction. To invest in the children of our community is to invest in the whole of St. Louis’ future.
All Saints’ believes that each child has the right to a music and art education. The arts should not be a luxury available only to those who can afford these.
Research shows that children who attend high-quality arts and humanities programs benefit academically and socially. These children are less likely to become teen parents; have improved school attendance and do their homework more often and better; learn to respect people who are different from themselves; and learn to respect themselves and have more self-confidence.
All Saints’ Music & Art Village is reaching out to the community for support. Their wish list includes:
- Supporters to fund the Fall 2012 program start-up
- Funds to purchase guitars
- Funds to purchase a keyboard lab
- Funds to purchase art supplies
- Funds to purchase All Saints’ Music & Art Village t-shirts
- Gift cards to purchase supplies such as snacks, office supplies and music
All of us at Grace wish All Saints’ much success with this important mission!
