Long-standing Grace member Brenda Mallottke is concerned about Grace’s 2012 financial picture and is doing something to help.

At the Jan. 22 Annual Meeting, Brenda addressed the congregation and announced that she is making a significant increase in her family’s annual pledge and challenged other members to do the same.

“I always complete my pledge card and try each year to increase my gift, but also try very hard to pledge at a safe level for my family,” Brenda said. “ I wanted to move out of my comfort zone and challenge other people to move out of theirs.”

Brenda’s heart-felt announcement received a lot of positive response at the time. She hopes it moves people to take action.

Dick Entenmann, former senior warden and BRIDGE co-chair said he was moved by Brenda’s announcement. “I’ve been exposed to challenges like this in the past, and it starts the ball rolling. I hope it does the same here at this point in time. It doesn’t have to be a huge increase to make a difference. A $16,000 deficit spread throughout 280 parish families comes out to $57 a year or $1 a week. I’m sure we could all find a dollar a week somewhere.”

Brenda and her family have been members at Grace for 14 years. She sings in the choir and has served on the vestry, the endowment committee and as a Eucharistic minister. She is a Certified Public Accountant for a not-for-profit agency, so she understands what it’s like to manage a tight budget and be dependent on things outside your control. She hopes increased giving will help Grace live up to its potential.

“In 2012, we all have to prioritize where our scarce dollars are going,” Dick explained.  “God has given us a lot to be grateful for. We need to recognize the abundance and reflect that in giving back.”

If you would like to answer Brenda’s challenge and increase your individual commitment, you can officially contact Financial Administrator Fernando Alfonso or just give with Grace.
