Cathedral observes Dr. Martin Luther King Day
On January 6, 2012
A Daylong observance of the Life and Legacy
of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Where: Christ Church Cathedral
13th St. (between Olive & Locust / across from Central Library)
When: Monday, Jan. 16, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
In honor of Dr. King’s birthday, Christ Church Cathedral is holding its third annual daylong reading of his writings and speeches – so his own words can re-enter our consciousness and continue to form us today.
Come to the Cathedral for 10 minutes, a half-hour or more. Come to sit and listen and let the words wash over you. You can also come to read – just come up to the front and approach whomever is reading and indicate you wish to take over. There will be someone ready to take over for you when you wish to stop.
Faith can give us courage to face the uncertainties of the future. it will give our tired feet new strength as we continue our forward stride toward the city of freedom. When our days become dreary with low-hovering clouds and our nights become darker than a thousand midnights, we will know that we are living in the creative turmoil of a genuine civilization struggling to be born.
